WOW!

Totally Awesome!

So I went snowboarding for the very first time this past weekend. My first time down the hill was not pretty! In fact about the first third down I laughed when I fell. Then it turned into anger and frustration, by the last third, I had it down. I take normal boarders 5 minutes to get down. It took me an hour and 45 minutes. Yes you read it right. By the second time I only feel once. But that fall was a bad one. Let’s just say I got my bell rung. My rear end has never hurt so much, but it was so much fun. The hot springs the next days had never felt soooooo good! I have a few pictures from the weekend I will put up in a few days!

intuition

I found this cool new article!

"After taking just one look at someone, why do we sometimes immediately know we don't like him or her? We usually chalk this up to instinct, intuition or a "gut feeling," but researchers have found that there's something more going on that just barely meets the eye --microexpressions.

The human face is a medium, or a sign vehicle, that sends us a message. When we "read" a face, there's quite a lot of data to sift through. One part of the medium is its basic structure and muscletone. Is it long and angular or round and chubby? Often, we'll see a stranger's face and flip through a mental Rolodex of sorts, matching the shape of the new face with ones we already know. We also perceive changes that have taken place, such as scarring, weathering of the skin or wrinkles. Taking into account artificial adornments, such as eyeglasses, makeup, tattoos or piercings, we make personal judgments based on what the person has added by choice.

Providing more immediate information are the changes in a person's face, such as smiles, frowns or scowls. These changes provide us with the most obvious information about someone's mood or immediate intentions. Expressions represent the person's intended message, the one he or she is trying to convey. A person trying to gain your trust will smile. Someone trying to scare you will scowl.

When we communicate, we try to collect as much verbal and nonverbal information as possible. We also try to control the outgoing expressive information we display to others in order to:

  • Maximize our understanding of the people we interact with
  • Gain perspective on the situation
  • Protect ourselves against harm, deception, embarrassment or loss of social standing
  • Guide, assure or manipulate the perceptions of another"

The only real valuable thing is intuition.

In the Middle of the Road

I realized yesterday that any excuse I could ever use regarding my age and not knowing better is pretty much come and gone. In less than 2 months I will be 26. I will officially be over that hill of innocence. Then I realized my next milestone is 30. Holy ____ 30? I am way too young to be close to that number.  Then I remember what I constantly hear from good friends who are in there 30’s. They have always said their 30’s were better than their 20’s. So I start thinking about this concept. I will have money, a job, a husband, and stability, where as my 20’s (at least the beginning) was full of empty bank accounts, late nights studying and parting, nights spent trying to look like million bucks to find a guy when all I wanted to do was drink and pass out. So as I get to the top of this 20’s hill, I brace for the fast ride down and will keep parting like a rock star!

Youth is a wonderful thing. What a crime to waste it on children.
